Wendy Kawaguchi of Sueoka’s Store couldn’t resist Earl Kashiwagi’s challenge of setting up a fall display in Koloa.
After getting her pumpkins for the customers in Koloa, she and the Sueoka’s staff put together a really nice display, Kai and Katie Norman enjoying the display on their way home from swimming. They were joined by Clara South (short version of a really long surname).
Celeste Rogers (what is a food scientist?) is ready for Halloween at the Kauai Culinary Market, guarding her Kabocha squash for next week’s demonstration created by Judy “Haole Girl Sweets” Capertina — it’s going to be Italian.
Celeste said Kauai Roots has pumpkins grown in Kalaheo, and the hard-to-get “real” Hearts of Palm. They were represented by the “Young, Kieran Bates; Medium, Kathy Bates, and Old, Jeanne Palmer.”
Aletha Thomas of Monkeypod Jam (she was voted best edible omiyage) said the Jaboticaba didn’t last, everything selling out in the first 15 minutes.
