One leaf, or two?
Rev. Nani Hill said this year they used one leaf for the majority of the laulau for the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church fundraising luau on Friday night.
Bonnie Shimatsu said sometimes, though, you had to use two leaves. At any rate, as long as there’s ti leaves, the laulau is great!
Cindy Combs and her Hoi Mai band had real good Hawaiian music, and Cheryl Morimoto had the andagi (Okinawa origin) going in the back.
Helen Lacono had no soup, but a whole bunch of dessert items, baked goods and a fresh salad bar to go along with the cafe-style tables and chairs from the Hanapepe Cafe. That was a great luau with Sandy Sterker manning the ticket table.
Jerry Hill said Friday was only the start since the church was going to be doing food on Saturday for the Kaiulani festival going on at the Storybook Theatre.
Add Tammy Andersland (going to be a grandma real soon) and Dr. Lee Croft, from Arizona State University, and it was a real party!
