LIHUE — Several events supporting traditional marriage are scheduled on Kauai.
On Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to noon at Aloha Church, there will be a presentation on the impact on the families and the educational system after same-sex marriage was passed in Canada 10 years ago.
“The effects of same-sex civil marriage in Canada — restrictions on free speech rights, parental rights in education, and autonomy rights of religious institutions, along with a weakening of the marriage culture — provide lessons for the United States,” according to a press release.
Guest speaker will be Phil Lees of Canada.
Lees has been an educator for 28 years and a pastor for two years.
“I encourage everyone to come out and show support for traditional marriage,” said Pastor Vill Galiza.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie has called both houses of the Legislature to convene at in a special session on Oct. 28 to address the issue of marriage equality.
“The decision to call a special session is based on doing what is right to create equality for all in Hawaii,” he said.
Those who support traditional marriage are planning two more sign waving campaigns in Lihue and Hanapepe on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.
A prayer rally was held noon Saturday in front of the Historic County Building, sponsored by Kauai Catholic Churches.
“We are not alone in this fight and must support one another in order to prevail,” the release said.
