Capt. Al Gustavson and his company, Goose’s Edge, presented the Kilohana Canoe Club, represented by its president Gaylyn Turalde, an award of $5,000 last week.
The presentation made Gustavson, who also owns Waimea Shell, the main sponsor of Kilohana CC, located in Waimea, said Matt Gustavson, Capt. Al’s son.
With the presentation, Goose’s Edge, who also is the major sponsor of Kai Opua Canoe Club in Kona on the Big Island, becomes the only company who is the major sponsor of two canoe clubs in Hawaii, Matt said.
Joining Capt. Al, Aloha Petroleum, represented by Larry Adams, director of marketing, and sales consultant Steve Toy, also presented the club with an award of $500.
Goose’s Edge owns and operates Tesoro gas stations on Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island in addition to the Waimea Shell station, 9862 Kaumualii Highway in Waimea town.
“Goose’s Edge also contributes to the Waimea High School athletic department,” Matt said. “We are proud to continue to serve the Kauai community and have donated thousands of dollars to support local athletics.”
Kilohana Canoe Club was established in 1991 by a group of novice paddlers anxious to revive Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling on Kauai’s Westside.
