LIHUE — The Kauai High School boys and the Kapaa High School girls swept the fourth week of Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling.
Led by Ian Luis, who rolled a day’s high 217, Kauai boys amassed a 2,522 pinfall total over three games to beat out Kapaa boys, who finished with a 2,148 pinfalls and Waimea, who ended with a 1,652 pinfalls.
Angelika Questin led the Kapaa girls to three straight wins, the Warrior wahine ending with a 2,010 pinfalls behind Questin’s day-high 161 in Game 3.
Jaffia Ballesteros, rolling two 157-games, led the Kauai girls to a 1,793 pinfalls with Waimea, getting pinfalls of 149 and 147 from Selena Perez Suniga, finishing with a 1,646 total.
Following the results of the fourth week, Kapaa girls have three first-place finishes, followed by the Kauai girls with one first-place finish. Waimea girls round out the field.
Kauai boys control the KIF standings with four first-place finishes followed by Kapaa and Waimea boys.
Luis, leading the boys individuals standing with a 207 average over nine games, rolled games of 174-217-189, being joined by D.J. Alao (180-186-170).
Jeorge Ho, holding fifth in the individuals on a 159 average, topped the Kapaa boys on rolls of 155-217-137 followed by Drew Lopez (153-134-156), Caleb Keohohou (148-144-149) and Riley Dabin (125-133-147).
Chase Ueno, holding second place in the boys individual standings with a 181 average over nine games, topped the Waimea boys with rolls of 128-171-170 followed by Justin Silva (160-133-128) and Kalei Nakaya (249-145-141).
On the girls’ side, Questin leads the individual standings with a 155 average over nine games.
She led the Kapaa girls’ sweep on rolls of 146-157-161, followed by Kristen Yam (107-143-171) Hazel Jarquio (110-153-147) and Amanda Thayer (137-137-129).
Ballesteros, sitting in third in the individual standings on a 134.89 average over nine games, topped the Red Raider girls on rolls of 151-157-157 followed by Jaden DeCosta-Caalim (117-103-105) and Janice Purisima (121-130-92).
Suniga, sitting at second in the individual standings with a 147.22 average over nine games, topped the Waimea scoring with rolls of 149-136-147 followed by Maisie Sagucio (111-113-137) and Diane Gawaran (119-105-118).
The KIF continues its series with the fifth game taking place Thursday at the Kauai Bowling Center, starting at 5:30 p.m.
