LIHUE — Monday is the last day for Kauai residents to request their old meters back without paying a fee.
Kauai Island Utility Cooperative announced a month ago that after Sept. 30, they would charge a fee for those wanting their smart meter replaced with a non-standard meter.
The charges range from $81 for a residential meter to $290 for a commercial bi-directional meter, and apply only to customers who already have a smart meter installed and want the old analog meter back.
Those who have already declined a smart meter during the islandwide installation program will not be affected by the new charges.
