The Kapaa Warriors will get their first shot at revenge Saturday when they take on the Red Raiders of Kauai High for the second time this season at 2:30 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
The Warriors, who are 2-1 on the season, are coming off a 28-0 shutout victory last week over the Menehune of Waimea High School at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Warriors mustered 239 total yards, with 111 of them coming on the ground in their win against the Menehune.
Back up Warrior quarterback, Turtle Kuhaulua, came into the game in the second quarter after starting quarterback Fresno Masaniai left the game due to an injury.
Kuhaulua went 8 for 19 for 103 yards and three touchdowns
Leading the attack on the ground for the Warriors was also Kuhaulua as he rushed for 33 yards on five attempts. Rudy Agoot rushed for 26 yards while fellow Warrior teammate, Leevi Bethal, chipped in with 21. Running back Shain Davis recorded the game’s only rushing touchdown for Kapaa.
For Kauai High, Saturday’s game will be their first game since their 35-13 victory against Waimea back on Sept. 13, and two weeks since their win against Kapaa.
In their first matchup against the Warriors this season on Sept. 6, the Red Raiders escaped Vidinha stadium with a 6-3 win.
Both defenses were strong and it wasn’t until the third quarter that points were put on the board.
Following a 16-yard field goal by Warrior Jonathan Paleka with 5:30 left in the third quarter, the Red Raiders scored the first touchdown of the game.
With a little under two minutes left in the third, Kauai running back Reggie McFadden punched it in for six on a 15-yard run.
The score held for the remainder of the game as the defenses for both teams stiffened up again.
Kauai High finished the game with 168 yards in total offense with a 117 of those yards coming from on the ground. Kapaa totaled 57 yards on offense and went backwards on the ground with negative six rushing yards.
Saturday’s game between the Warriors and Red Raiders will be the second of three total matchups between the two teams.
Kauai is undefeated at 2-0 while the Kapaa is 2-1.
Saturday’s action will start with JV at noon, with varsity to follow at 2:30.
