Gabriel Cataluna, celebrating his 101st birthday in April 2014, had to go to the football game Saturday, to watch his great grandson, Destin Miguel, play for Waimea High School.
That is one of the plus sides of playing football during the day, and with the nice breeze blowing down from the Kalaheo plateau, Bill Arakaki, the Kauai Area Complex Superintendent, said it was a nice crowd for the first day football game.
Sherri and Larry Ephan were definitely at the game to watch Brock (he had two fumble recoveries). Sherri was thrilled because her sensei (she’s a kick boxer, too) Ken Firestone was also at the day game (Italian ices were good sellers).
Arthur Brun said the Waimea cheerleaders are having a fundraising plate lunch special Oct. 9 (pick up at the Clem Gomes Gym) featuring Arthur’s smoked meat, rice, corn, cake and a cold drink.
Coach Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes made it back from cross country, but Coach Brandon Moises said it was his daughter’s birthday.
