LIHUE — The “designated driver” has hit the roads of Kauai with a new car service.
“I just got back from Waimea because a gentleman from Kapaa wanted to have his mom driven to a girlfriend’s home in Waimea so she could visit,” Jeff Goldenberg said Friday afternoon. “We’re more than a taxi service.”
Goldenberg, who moved to Kauai several years ago, has opened of Leis Limo & Beach Cities Services. He fell in love with the island after bringing several softball teams to participate in the Waimea softball tournament.
“I got to know some of the local officials and people and now I’m living here,” he said.
Goldenberg said he owned several taxi and limosine companies in California, servicing Santa Barbara and San Luis Obisbo counties.
In 2010, he sold those companies and moved to Kauai.
He has a registered service mark, “Your Designated Driver.” He works with local law enforcement and bar owners to provide rides for those who had too much enjoyment. He picks folks up and drives them around in a Lincoln Navigator.
He said Leis Limos and Beach Cities Services is also a unique and fun way to experience Kauai.
“What is different from our service, is we want to start offering ‘Your Designated Driver’ program here on Kauai,” Goldenberg said. “We’ve already spoken with several people who are interested in the ‘don’t drink and drive’ program. This program is for everyone.”
Goldenberg is starting on Kauai, but hopes to have Leis Limo & Beach Cities Services fleets on all the islands.
“As services pick up, I hope to add more vehicles and drivers,” he said.
