NAWILIWILI — More than 1,000 pounds of food helped launch the Kauai Independent Food Bank 2013 Holiday Food and Fund Drive Thursday in Nawiliwili.
Kauai representatives of the Transportation Security Administration arrived at the KIFB Nawiliwili facility with more than 400 pounds of food collected during a drive held in conjunction with the “Feds Feed Families” campaign.
“This is a great way to launch our holiday food and fund drive,” said Kelvin Moniz, KIFB food resources manager. “We received 767 pounds from the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Mana earlier this week, and the United States Department of Agriculture dropped off 176 pounds — all under the Feds Feed Families program.”
During a brief tour of the facility, Moniz said the KIFB holiday campaign will run through Dec. 31 and people are invited to help reach the target goal of $40,000 and 40,000 pounds of food.
Contributors can drop off non-perishable foods at any of the fire stations, as well as the KIFB offices in Nawiliwili during the holiday drive.
People wishing to host internal food drives within the places they work, or within community organizations, can call Moniz at 246-3809 ext. 102, or email kmoniz@kauaifoodbank.org.
