LIHUE — Kauai Interscholastic Federation football is set to get underway tonight as the Kapaa High School Warriors take on the Menehune of Waimea High.
Both teams are coming off preseason losses and will be looking to cement themselves as legitimate contenders for this year’s crown.
Led by their trio of quarterbacks Fresno Masaniai, Rudy Agoot and Turtle Kuhaulua, the Warriors turned in a preseason record of 1-1, including an impressive 56-12 win over Nanakuli High School.
Fitting in one more game than their counterpart, the Menehune turned in a record of 1-2, highlighted by a 42-0 victory over the Anuenue Rainbows.
The Warriors will be looking for production from their quarterbacks and running back Leevi Bethel, while the Menehune will be counting on standouts Destin Miguel, Acetyn Emayo and Kiliona Russell-Moe.
Tonight’s match up between the schools will take place at Vidinha Stadium with the junior varsity kicking off at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
Kauai High School will wrap up their preseason Saturday when they take on Cottage Grove High School of Oregon at Vidinha Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Red Raiders are coming off a 32-10 victory of Kwansei High School Fighters of Japan and will be looking to go 2-0 this preseason.
Kauai High will rely on running back Reggie McFadden, who rushed for over 200 yards against the Fighters, and will be looking to defend their title this season.
