There will be no inbound traffic except for emergency vehicles into Koloa and Poipu from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. Sunday.
The traffic advisory is from organizers of the 5th Kauai Marathon on Sunday starting in Poipu.
“The race starts at 6 a.m. and while traffic will flow in and around the Koloa, Poipu, Lawai and Kalaheo areas, there will be some lane and road closures between 5 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.,” states a Kauai Marathon release. “To ensure the safety of both runners and drivers, please exercise caution and patience when driving on the Southside Sunday.”
The Kauai Police Department and Garden Island Security will be monitoring traffic flow throughout the course. Access into Koloa and Poipu will be limited to Koloa Road and Omao Road until 6:30 a.m., Sunday.
The Kauai Marathon organizers said traffic will flow in and out of all South Shore regions, but it is recommended that travel in these areas be limited from 5 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on race day, Sunday.
Visitors and residents needing to reach Lihue Airport from the South or Westside, organizers suggest planning at least 1.5 to 2 hours of travel time.
