Newton Running will join in this year’s The Kauai Marathon and the elementary school with the most keiki in the keiki run on Aug. 31 can earn a $500 donation.
Registration for the keiki run is being accepted at The Kauai Marathon website at www.thekauaimarathon.com.
Event fees for those applications received by Aug. 26 are $10 and each participant is guaranteed a medal and event t-shirt. Applications are available after Aug. 26 through race day with an event fee of $15.
Categories in the first Kauai Marathon Keiki Run include a toddler trot; a 100-yard run for keiki 2 to 4 years old; a quarter-mile run for 4 to 7 year olds; and a half-mile run for 8 to 12 year old youngsters. The run will take place on the far west side of the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa.
Participants in all of the categories are encouraged to list their school on the entry forms. The elementary school with the most runners for the keiki run will be eligible for a $500 donation.
Registration on race day, Aug. 31, starts at 8 a.m. with the run starting at 9 a.m.
The youth program, sponsored by Newton Running’s “Hello Better,” is a new aspect to The Kauai Marathon.

Tyler McCandless, the 2011 and 2012 The Kauai Marathon winner, will be presenting ideas about health, wellness, and movement and encourage participation in the keiki run. McCandless’ presentation is being offered to elementary school and cross country teams throughout the island.

The Kauai Marathon begins at 6 a.m. Sept. 1 on Poipu Road fronting the Poipu Shopping Village.
Runners in the half marathon and full marathon run together for the first 11 miles before the half marathoners veer off to the oceanfront finish. The marathoners head up Koloa Road through the neighborhoods of Lawai and Kalaheo before returning to Poipu.
Online registration deadline for The Kauai Marathon is at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Aug. 29. Race packets, bibs and participant bags must be picked up on Aug. 30 or 31 at the Sports and Fitness Expo at the Grand Hyatt Kauai.
