A 54-year-old male visitor from Seattle, who drowned off Lydgate Beach Park, has been identified.
According to a press release, Hom Shu was swimming in Morgan’s Ponds when he was located under water shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.
Bystanders pulled him to shore and began performing CPR until medics and Kapaa firefighters arrived. Shu was transported to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition where he was treated until his passing the next night.
Life’s Bridges, a grief-counseling service, and representatives from the Kauai Visitor’s Bureau assisted Shu’s family following the incident.
This is Kauai’s 14th drowning this year.
