LIHUE — The Kauai Economic Development Board announced that the Daniel K. Inouye Memorial Fund awarded the organization with a $5,000 grant to support the organizations Aloha `Ike Educational Program.
Established in 2005, the Aloha `Ike Educational Program provides private grants to teacher inspired projects in any Kauai public, private, and charter school serving grades K-12.
Since its inception, 127 school projects have been funded, impacting more than 4,000 students on the island.
From the programs inauguration, Inouye was a staunch supporter of the educational initiative, according to a press release.
“On behalf of the Daniel K. Inouye Memorial Fund I am pleased to provide this contribution as a small token of appreciation for Dan’s long-time support of your organization” wrote Irene Hirano Inouye, wife of the late Sen. Daniel K. Inouye.
The Daniel K. Inouye Memorial Fund was created in December 2012 to continue to help organizations and causes that the Senator supported over the years.
