LIHUE — Kauai dropped two games Tuesday and was eliminated from the 2013 Protect Our Nation’s Youth West Zone Tournament in Fullerton, Calif. at Amerige Park.
The Kauai PONY 13 all-stars lost its first game of the day when they were bested by La Mirada, Calif. 5-2, knocking them into the loser’s bracket.
Kauai had little time to lick its wounds, as it had to come back and immediately play Jurupa, Calif. to still have a shot at advancing to the PONY World Series.
Unfortunately for Kauai, they dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 to Jurupa and were eliminated from the tournament.
Kauai earned a spot in the Zone tournament by winning the Hawaii Regional Tournament, where they went 3-0.
Kauai opened the zone tournament on a pair of high notes beating Arizona 8-2 and Long Beach 2-1 before dropping its next two.
La Mirada will take on Jurupa today to decide who will earn a bid to the World Series. La Mirada has the advantage as Jurupa will have to beat them twice in order stake its claim as zone champions.
The World Series will take place in Fullerton from July 26 to 30.
