Matt Ballard, coach for the Kauai High School wrestling program, will lead a wrestling camp Saturday and Sunday at the Kauai High School gym.
The Kauai Interscholastic Federation established wrestling as a KIF sport during the school year ending in May 2013 with Kauai, Waimea and Kapaa high schools participating and fielding wrestlers along with Island School.
Wrestling programs are also available through the Kauai Police Activities League and community wrestling clubs.
Registration will take place 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday for the camp, which will end Sunday with a mini-wrestling tournament from 2 to 4 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to attend to get a better understanding of the sport and witness the accomplishments of their children.
Participants are asked to bring a water bottle, light snacks, an extra T-shirt, and athletic shorts and socks. Participants with wrestling shoes are asked to bring them.
During the camp, athletes will discuss goals, participate in a nutrition class and visit with Kauai Police Department officers about making positive life choices.
