LIHUE — Larry Cisneros, vice president of Athletes for College, is excited about returning to Kauai.
Cisneros was optimistic following an Athletes for College football combine where Kauai student-athletes went through a two-day training program.
“Eventually, I would like to see student-athletes from outside of Kauai come here to be able to participate,” said Cisnero. “By having a combine where people are attracted to come and participate, the experience helps Kauai athletes who are exposed to other student-athletes and their capabilities.”
Laura Cisnero, Larry’s wife who was helping with registration, said the Athletes for College maintains a database that is referred to by collegiate recruiters and others in the professional leagues.
She said there is a lot of interest from students about scholarships in sports at the college level.
“The Kauai kids definitely have talent,” said Laura Cisnero. “They need to be exposed so people can see what they can do.”
Clinic organizers provided instruction on the specific positions, including quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker and defensive back.
Verified Measurables in height, weight, the 40-Yard, the 5-15-5 Shuffle, Power Ball Toss and Vertical Jump were logged for placement in the student-athlete’s profile.
