LIHUE — Space is still available for the Kauai Football Combine powered by Athletes for College.
The football combine will launch on Friday for youth ages 7 through 13 years old at Isenberg Park, located at 3101-3179 Ehiku Street in Lihue. Players will be on the field from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
High School players will take the field Saturday from 1 to 4:30 p.m., also at Isenberg Park.
Additionally, Brad Hiranaka of the Kauai Youth Football program said student athletes in any high school sport who want to get into college are welcome at 4 p.m. to find out and ask questions on how or what to do to get a college scholarship.
The combine will cover positions of quarterback, running back, wide receiver, offensive line, defensive line, linebacker and defensive back.
During the football skills circuit training, participants will work on throwing mechanics and progression reads at the quarterback position. Running backs will work on directional cuts, ball control and pass routes.
Wide receivers will get help in get offs, routes and catching techniques. Offensive linemen will work on stance, angle drive, and combo pass blocks while defensive linemen will work on ball movement, hand and arm techniques. Line backers will get help in reading steps, blocker techniques and coverage while defensive backs work on stance to pedal, man and zone coverages.
Registration is $10 and forms are available at www.athletesforcollege.com/Camps or by calling Hiranaka at 652-9962. Registration on the day of the combine is $20 at the gate.
