LIHUE – The Kauai PONY all-stars were eliminated from the 2013 Hawaii PONY Regional Tournament Monday when the team lost to Kona, 12-8, at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku. They finished in fourth place.
Kauai beat Mililani, 5-3, on Sunday and Maui Red, 12-2, on Saturday after dropping its opening game to Maui Blue, 13-3.
Offensively, Kauai was led by Trevor Tadiarca, who was 1 for 4 with a home run and an RBI, Brayden Abreu, who finished 2 for 4 with a double, single and 2 RBIs and Pat Esteban, who was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs.
Doug Miyasato went 2 innings on the mound for Kauai and was saddled with the loss. Abreu threw three innings in relief with Kobey Dias throwing the final two innings.
Kauai will be flying home today after spending the last five days on Maui.
With the win, Kona advances to the semifinals where it will meet the losing team from the Hilo, Maui Blue game. Results were not available by press time.
Both Hilo and Maui Blue are the only two undefeated teams in the tournament.
