Enough with the sitting, waiting, wishing. Singer/songwriter and Hawaii native Jack Johnson announced the details of his new album, along with the release of his first single.
The single “I Got You” (an ode to his wife, Kim) retains Johnson’s guitar strumming, warm and breezy feel. The single (available for purchase on iTunes) is the first song released from the album “From Here to Now to You,” available Sept. 17. The album was recorded at Johnson’s Mango Tree Studio, based on Oahu, and produced by Mario Caldato Jr., who produced Johnson’s 2005 release “In Between Dreams.”
“From Here” marks the first set of original songs since Johnson’s 2010 release, “To the Sea.”
Johnson’s recently-announced U.S. tour does not include (alas) any Hawaiian dates, but the singer will preview songs from the new album with acoustic sets in London and New York City, on June 19 and 24, respectively.
He will return to London in September for the BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park and the iTunes Festival, where a worldwide audience will be able to stream a live, full band performance of songs from the new album, and favorites from his catalog, which has sold over 19 million copies worldwide.
Johnson made his Kauai performance debut in April 2012 at Kauai Community Center when he performed an acoustic concert with friends and fellow Hawaiian musicians John Cruz and Paula Fuga. The concert was part of a seven-date Hawaiian island tour to raise money for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, a nonprofit designed to support environmental education in Hawaii’s schools.
