LIHUE — Rubber duckies for the big race on July 4 are on sale at Cafe Ohana at the Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu or at the resort’s concierge desk.
The duckies will race at noon to highlight the StarWish Kauai “Make A Day of It” 4th of July celebration.
Festivities start at 8 a.m. and run through the big Rubber Duckie Race, which is scheduled to start at noon.
Rubber duckies will also be available at poolside on July 4 for a $10 donation for a single duck. A Quack Pack is available for $30 and includes four ducks. For those who want to remember the event, a duck and T-shirt package is available for $20 and includes a racing duck and an event T-shirt.
Race officials said owners of the top 10 ducks finishing the race in the Sheraton Kauai Ocean Pool will earn a prize. The last duck finishing will also earn its owner a prize.
Gates open to the celebration at 8 a.m. at the Sheraton Kauai lawn with a variety of keiki activities, including a petting zoo.. The petting zoo will be joined by pony rides and other keiki activities, plus a watermelon contest at 11 a.m.
StarWish Kauai is the charity fundraising effort by the Sheraton Kauai Ohana, providing scholarships to Sheraton Kauai youth and assistance to local nonprofit organizations, including the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, the Kauai United Way, the Hawaii Foodbank, Kauai Branch, the Kauai Independent Food Bank, the American Red Cross, and other agencies through its “You Dine-We Donate at RumFire” program.
