LIHUE — Two men escaped injury after their vehicles collided Thursday morning near the Moloaa Fruit Stand in Moloaa. No injuries were reported in the crash.
Kauai Police Dispatch received a call about the accident around 8:15 a.m. A 22-year-old Hanamaulu man driving a Nissan sedan reportedly crossed the center line of Kuhio Highway and struck the driver-side of a Jeep SUV traveling southbound.
The 72-year-old Kilauea man driving the Jeep was pinned inside of his vehicle. Firefighters and medics responded to the scene to assist in extracting the elderly man from his vehicle.
Both lanes of Kuhio Highway were blocked for roughly 30 minutes as crews worked to safely remove the man from his Jeep. The southbound lane was then opened to alternating traffic until 9:30 a.m., when both lanes were opened.
