Young awarded Smith Scholarship
Micah Young, a graduate of Kauai High School, was named the recipient of the $2,000 Gertrude Ekvall Smith Memorial Scholarship at the Kapaa Missionary Church Worship Service on June 16.
He is the son of Jed and Judi Young of Lihue.
The award is presented annually to a graduating high school senior bound for a Christian college or university, who attends a Missionary Church on Kauai.
The selection was based on character, Christian service, academics and financial need.
Micah plans to attend Biola University, a Christian university in California.
Centeno awarded $8,000 scholarship
USTA Serves, the National Charitable Foundation of the United States Tennis Association, announced that Kauai High School senior Jerik Centeno of Lihue was awarded an $8,000 College Educational Scholarship.
The Foundation has granted 58 high school students a variety of college scholarships this spring, totaling $395,000.
Centeno was selected from several applicants throughout the country for his commitment to academic success, involvement in community service and participation in an organized tennis program. The $8,000 scholarship will be awarded over four years to Centeno while he attends the Art Institute of California.
