LIHUE — The Eastside and North Shore Kauai Scholarship Fund has awarded 28 scholarship grants totaling $40,000 to college and university students from Kauai.
Established in 2005 by John and Marie Moseley of Princeville, the scholarship is celebrating its ninth year and has given over 200 students grants ranging from $500 to $3,000.
“The community impact of $40,000 in scholarships to Kauai students is exponential,” Darcie Yukimura of the Hawaii Community Foundation on Kauai said in a release. “Thanks to the Eastside & North Shore team, as well as John, Marie and Sara (Slater) for the contribution of resources, diligence and aloha for the community.”
The 2013/2014 grant recipients are: Lexie Albite-Ruiz, Eden Baxter, Kamalani Brun, Mason Chock, Joy Claypool, Kara Dastrup, Emily DeVille, Dylan Devin, Alana Goo, Eric Guyett, Tanner Henry, Kaylee Iseri, Kamala Lizama, Trevor McCracken, Kimberly McDonough, Lilia Merrin, Dawn Mones, Luana Ragasa, Madeline Rausch, Sophia Saindon-Davies, Taybree Souza, Chloe Stokes, Stephen Thompson Jr., Vera Vieira, Kaitlin Viernes, Teagan Waialeale, Seena Wise and Frances Young.
Selection of the recipients was made by the ENSK Scholarship Fund advisory board, made up of Laurel Brier, Brenda Viado, Annie Torio, Michael Shooltz and Mehana Blaich Vaughn.
Scholarship recipients must be residents of the geographical area of Kauai from Wailua to Haena for consideration of a grant.
In addition, the advisory board considers financial need, letter of recommendation and personal statement from the applicants in awarding the grants.
Recipients and their families will be invited to a celebration and gathering at Anini Beach Park on Sunday, July 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Hawaii Community Foundation administers the applications and coordinates the grants to the various colleges and universities attended by recipients.
