LIHUE — The eighth and final episode of “Kauai Shining Stars in Education” is out, featuring stories about art projects, a career day event and student-led conferences.
Producer Sean Doi said he is proud of the first season and anxious for what is to come next year.
“We’ll be back in September,” he said. “We haven’t gone away.”
The finale kicks off on Kauai’s Westside at Kekaha Elementary, where students are taking responsibility for their own work in the classroom by leading conferences with their parents.
From there, Doi takes his audience to Koloa Elementary Career Day, where guest speakers and professionals in the community talk to students about what they might want to do with their lives after high school.
Finally, the episode takes a look at Kauai High School’s talented Trysen Kuneshige and his senior project.
Kauai Complex Area Superintendent Bill Arakaki said the premiere season went well and “showcased the many good things going on in our schools.”
“Any time we can bring attention to a student or teacher, it brings joy to my heart,” he said.
Next year, Doi plans to enhance the show by involving more students and allowing media classes to create their own stories.
The 30-minute season finale airs on Hoike Community Television Channel 54 on Sundays at 8 p.m., Mondays at 5 p.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
