LIHUE — The deadline to provide input on phase two of the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance update is June 28, according to county officials.
The CZO, which regulates land use and development on Kauai, is being updated in two phases by the Planning Department with assistance from the consulting firm Helber, Hastert and Fee.
Phase two contains proposed updates that are substantive in nature. These updates are grouped thematically for ease in reading. Visit http://www.kauai.gov/planning/CZOUpdate to review the plan.
Comments can be emailed to: czoupdate@kauai.gov or sent via regular mail to: Planning Department, 4444 Rice Street, Suite A473, Lihue, HI 96766.
Additionally, comments may be submitted in person at the Planning Department counter at the Lihue Civic Center, Kapule Building.
The first phase of the update focused primarily on organizational and format changes and incorporated the adopted CZO amendments to date. It was completed and approved via Ordinance No. 935 last year. Visitwww.kauai.gov to review the first phase.
Over the last three years, long-range county planners have been working with the consultant in reorganizing the CZO, incorporating charts and figures as visual aids, and inserting language changes based on meetings with the Planning Department staff as well as their research on other codes and laws.
The project team has also reviewed the recommendations for CZO amendments found in the 2000 Kauai General Plan along with the recommendations from the 1996 to 1998 CZO update, and has moved forward with having some of them codified.
Among the recently codified amendments are: Transient Vacation Rental Ordinances Nos. 864, 876 and 904; Open District Ordinance No. 896; and Additional Dwelling Unit Ordinances Nos. 843 and 886.
