The Kauai Protect Our Nation’s Youth 13 and Under team will be participating in the state tournament in Hilo, June 28 through 30.
“The is the first time that Kauai has entered a team in the PONY 13 age group,” said Lisa Camalliri in an email. “Players between ages 11 through 13 years old can play in the PONY 13 state tournament.”
Kirk Correa, an assistant coach for the team, said if the team wins the state tournament, it will advance to compete in the regional tournament being held in Fullerton, Calif. on July 19 through 22.
To help defray some of the travel expenses, the team will be hosting a car wash Sunday at the Chevron gas station next to the Pizza Hut in Lihue from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.
Camalliri said in addition to having a person’s car washed, drivers can also browse through the bake sale, which will be taking place during the same time.
The Kauai Pony 13 team includes Chris Ishikawa, Keanu Camalliri, Kai Alquiza, Jance Medeiros, Ekolu Rivera, Eli Nishira, Mikah Nonaka, Aaron Renaud, Chayse Basuel, Chase Ibia, Cody Taniguchi, Boogie Yam, Kaliko Banquel, Charlie Lopez and Joel Deblin.
Nick Alquiza is the team’s business manager, Kirk and Dallas Correa are assistant coaches.
