Mary Lardizabal, director of the Kapaa Middle School Choir and Ukulele Band, had less than half of her students Saturday.
But the small group worked through the Kamehameha Day parade and trooped over to the Kukui Grove Center where they were part of the Father’s Day weekend calendar. They were surprised by Wanda Kau-Shibata, the governor’s liason, and Kauai County Councilwoman JoAnn Yukimura who presented the group with special commendation certificates for their double gold performance at the Heritage Music Festival in California, earlier in the year.
With the perserverance demonstrated by the small group, it is no wonder they are gold medal performers.
Kudos to Nalani Brun (the black of Ahahui Kaahumanu, Lihue Chapter 6 is very becoming over the crew T-shirt), Melissia Sugai and all those involved in a great Kamehameha Day parade. Mahalo especially to Nathan Kalama for help with the program lineup for the parade!
OK, it’s off to the Protect Our Nation’s Youth Bronco playoffs in Hanapepe.
