From the creative minds of Miss Jennifer and Mel Bell-Grey, along with 80-plus devoted families, “World Inner Motion” Dance Show Extravaganza was a complete success.
Jennifer, who has held dance classes here on Kauai for over 15 years, has maintained a foundation and constant outlet for the children (and adults) to build upon.
During her studies at the Royal Ballet School of London, Jennifer found and expressed her talent of choreography, creating pieces and directing her classmates to form the vision in which she painted.
Mel, who has seen sights in his life and travels that have inspired him to write such musical works as “Cure” and “Save the Children,” has found a niche here on our little island with these performers in order to share a message of hope, understanding and appreciation.
Together, Mel and Jennifer have been offering our island’s dancers — of all backgrounds — a place to learn and perform.
In January of 2013, the choreography and message was set, and the performers gathered with a common goal, “World Inner Motion.” With dancers ranging in age from three years to adulthood, the objective of finding a way and place for all seemed quite challenging. But, with the creative minds of Jennifer and Mel, needs were met.
Shortly after the crowd entered the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, the show came to life with an upbeat start, including the almost full cast dancing with vigor and heart to Michael Jackson’s “Can You Feel It.” Smiles appeared on the faces of the cast as they were eagerly primed to perform for the well-packed audience.
The fluidity and emotion of the dancers expressed to the audience their desire to perform on stage. Using multiple forms of media — including original scores, photographs, videos and verbal messages — the audience was guided through the inner happenings of our planet, from the movement that people generate to the natural destruction and beauty of lava forming new land, to the various forms of industry.
Those assembled were guided through the workings of the world without judgment, but with appreciation. Through the arts, spectators were shown that by looking at the world as a whole, its aspects could be viewed with respect, value, and love.
With the tireless efforts of Jennifer and Mel Bell-Grey, Georgia Lynn Degracia, Natalie Fryman (back stage) and, of course, Cleo Bell-Grey, “World Inner Motion” has set a new bar of performance.
As a spectator, mother of a performer and a dancer, I eagerly look forward to future shows created by this dedicated team.
