LIHUE — About 70 vintage vehicles will be parked near the American Savings Bank on Saturday.
Harvey Maeda of Kauai Classic Cars had about 20 cars taking up the first two parking rows in the parking lot fronting the Sears store on Nawiliwili Road, Friday night during the First Friday event hosted by the Kukui Grove Center.
“This is a preview for Father’s Day,” said Jonell Kaohelaulii, Kukui Grove marketing director who was helping Ellen Ching of the Easter Seals Hawaii distribute golf balls for the annual Easter Seals golf tournament golf ball drop.
“A lot of the vendors at First Friday will be back this weekend to celebrate Father’s Day and give shoppers an opportunity to shop for their dads.”
Maeda said in addition to the popular free car show that starts Saturday morning and continues throughout the day, George Nitta, host of an automobile radio show on Am 690 in Honolulu, will be visiting.
“George is going to be testing all the gasoline and oils sold on Kauai,” Maeda said. “Are you getting what you’re paying for? George has been testing gasolines around the state, and you’d be surprised at his findings.”
Nitta will do his testing at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., he’ll host his weekly automobile radio show live from the Kukui Grove parking lot fronting the American Savings Bank.
Kaohelaulii said J.C. Crouch of the Kauai Harley-Davidson will continue his motorcycle exhibit through Father’s Day at the mall.
“He said he’s gotten real good response from having the bikes on display and has consented to keep it going for another week,” Kaohelaulii said.
Another vendor, Kauai Eco Sporting Clays, was brought in for the First Friday event.
“I didn’t even know we had such a place on Kauai,” she said. “I became familiar with the sport while on the Mainland so when I found out about them, I brought them in because they were giving away a round for dads. They’ll be with the Kauai Car Show this weekend as well with more giveaways.”
Special guests for the First Friday included the Kauai Athletic Club with a display near the food court area where Larry and Ilima Rivera and Hauoli Dancers were entertaining as regular First Friday performers.
Na Hui O Kamakaokalani hosted a fundraising table with opportunities are various prize packages, free samples from Vitamin World, and other tenant specials highlighted the Father’s Day preview.
