The rain may have canceled a Garden Island Renegade Rollerz scrimmage game last weekend, but it did little to dampen the spirits of the players and those cheering for them.
In all, about 30 people, including many close friends and family members, gathered on June 1 at the Kapaa Hockey Rink to watch the all-women team’s Clean Girls take on the Mean Girls in one of their last exhibition games before the Battle of the Islands next month.
Many of the spectators, who brought their own chairs and mats for the event, opted to sit along one side of the skating rink to watch the game while some of the adjacent bleachers were cordoned off for ADA compliance upgrades.
The game, which ended shortly after the first half ended, was a clear runaway for the Clean Girls, who captured the game with a more than 30-point lead.
Women interested in skating in the flat track roller derby league can visit www.gardenislandrenegaderollers.com or visit any of the practices on the Eastside at the Kapaa In-line Hockey Rink or on the Westside at the Smokey Valley Clubhouse in Waimea.

Westside practices take place for veteran skaters from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
