If you need something cool and refreshing to combat the summer heat, you should try out some of the amazing refreshments at The Coconut Cup Juice Bar and Cafe. They serve iced coffee, smoothies, juice and even shave ice.
A smoothie The Coconut Cup is known for is The Sleeping Giant, $7.50. It comes in a 16-ounce cup and consists of banana, papaya, mango, passion fruit, kale, spirulina and orange juice.
“You can’t really taste the kale and spirulina because of the sweeter flavors,” said owner Christa Hall. “It’s definitely our most popular drink.”
Another smoothie Hall blended was the Wainiha Acai, which is also priced at $7.50. It’s made from acai, banana, papaya, mixed berries and is blended with your choice of either soy milk or pineapple juice.
Other smoothies worth trying are the Kealia Crush (banana mango, coconut and pineapple juice); the Hanalei Bay Sunset (mango, banana, papaya, passion fruit and orange juice); the Polihale Punch (berries, pineapple, banana, papaya and pineapple juice); and the Lumahai Cooler (pineapple, mango, papaya, ginger and guava juice).
Also worth trying are the juices. There are six different types, and they are made using locally-sourced produce. The organic, fresh-squeezed juice comes in a 12-ounce cup and they range from $7.50 to $8.75. You have your choice of pineapple juice, carrot juice, Thai green juice, Pink Lady juice, ginger juice and Get ‘Yer Greens juice, a combo of kale, parsley, celery, cucumber and carrot with spirulina.
If you need something that will cool you down quickly, try out The Coconut Club’s shave ice. It comes in two sizes — a small for $4 and a large for $5. The awesome thing about the shave ice at The Coconut Club is that they use organic juice instead of syrup. If you’re going to have something sweet, it might as well be healthy.
