KAPA‘A – Two traffic collisions on Sunday night on Kuamoo Road in Kapaa resulted in two damaged utility poles, one arrest and one hit-and-run. Police are now asking the public for more information.
The first incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. when a motorcyclist struck a utility pole while heading east of Kuamoo Road, near the Ohelo Road junction.
The 27-year-old driver, Brennan Herbon of Kapaa, was transported to Wilcox Hospital and subsequently cited for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant. His current condition is unknown.
The second crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when a vehicle struck a utility pole fronting 6540 Kuamoo Road.
The collision caused the utility pole to fall on the roadway, blocking the entire eastbound lane and a portion of the westbound lane. The vehicle, described as a white Jeep Cherokee SUV, left the scene and police have not yet located the car or driver. The SUV is believed to have sustained major front-end damage.
Anyone with information on this incident or the vehicle in question is asked to call police at 241-1711.
Kuamoo Road was closed in both directions for several hours while utility crews repaired the damaged pole and restored power to the surrounding area.
