Security for the right reasons
Our airport security isn’t about service to visitors arriving in a little rain and your inconveniences. It is about security here and it is taken very seriously. We have a missile systems operations to protect America and even your Ohio. It’s not about visitors at airport. By the way we just recently intercepted a missile from N. Korea. A success.

Keep your dogs on a leash
I admit it — I’m afraid of dogs!
I grew up with dogs, two minimum, whom I loved and who were always kept fenced in the backyard. I also had cats, moth larvae, guppies and a parakeet. Except for the dog, we all lived peacefully together, usually in my room.
After being bitten several times by loose dogs, I’ve become an avowed “cat person.” Whenever I see a dog running on the beach or in the neighborhood, my chest tightens and I panic. Unless I get to know a dog, and it gets to know me, I’m very uncomfortable.
My kids have three dogs and we all get along (in fact one of them thinks he’s my dog!). But if a loose dog runs up to me, my family knows to intercept it; I have two artificial knees and can’t run to get away.
Knuckles sounded like a very sweet dog and I’m sorry for his passing. But if he’d run at me my first thought would have been that he was attacking. And I’d have panicked.
Leash laws are there for a reason so please, when you and your dog are out walking, keep it on a leash and under your control.
At home, raise your fence height so it can’t jump out and attack a small child. And please, if at all possible, keep it quiet from 10 p.m. until 8 a.m. Your neighbors will appreciate it.

‘Property owners need to be protected’
When I heard someone describe their feelings as “violated” after their home was burglarized, I thought to myself, “that’s a little extreme” … until it happened to me.
I remember feeling as if I’d been slugged in the stomach when I got the call that our home had been broken into.
Our home on the beautiful island of Kauai is our escape from work and stress and the place where we go to recharge.
We found out that the person responsible for this act was actually found and questioned, only to be released.
Allegedly, she has been arrested more than 10 times for 10 different crimes of breaking and entering. And she continues to carry out these heinous acts. Why? Because she can. For whatever reasons, she continues to be released to continue to upset the lives of many homeowners on what used to be the sleepy little island of Kauai.
We never used to lock our doors. We never feared that someone would walk in and help themselves to our personal items. We never had to come home and be afraid that a window would be knocked out.
What is wrong with our judicial system that such acts are allowed to be carried out over and over again with no repercussions?
Why are we not being protected by our court system? Why is she allowed to continue to terrorize neighborhoods with hardly a slap on the hand?
Something needs to be done. Property owners need to be protected.

Concerned Kauaians
Mike and Stuart Hollinger conclude their letter of May 31, 2013 with “… what is there to be concerned about?… what could possibly go wrong with GMO plants and animals?”
Without admitting or denying the truth of their factual presentation, I write again, awaiting a factual answer which has not yet been provided to those who want to know.
And, so, I boldly ask again of the GMO protesters on Kauai on behalf of “concerned” Kauaians: What, describe with specificity, GMOed plant or animal food products are being manufactured, grown or produced on Kauai by Monsanto, et al, are available for purchase on Kauai and have been scientifically or medically deemed or declared harmful to the health or well being of its consumer.
Will someone take a bite off of this apple to allay the “concerns” of Kauaians?
