ELEELE — Nancy Golden was styling when she arrived at the YWCA’s luncheon Thursday at the Kauai Beach Resort.
Golden, a volunteer at Eleele Elementary School for the past six years, got her car washed Wednesday.
But it was not just another car wash. Kindergarten students in Annie Godsill’s class, where Golden has been volunteering for the past three years, thanked her for her weekly visits and reading by washing her car.
“We are lucky to have Ms. Nancy Golden as a weekly volunteer in our kindergarten classroom,” Godsill said. “She does so much for my students each year.”
Godsill said the class presented Golden with a certificate for a car wash during Christmas, and on Wednesday, fulfilled that promise.
“This is a ‘feel good’ project for the students,” Godsill said. “I thought it would be a good lesson in giving back.”
Golden, founder of Nana’s House in Waimea, was one of three women honored by the YWCA of Kauai during its recognition luncheon.
“This is so beautiful,” Golden kept saying repeatedly as the students took turns wetting down the vehicle, soaping it, scrubbing tires, vacuuming, and with the help of Godsill and her aides, cleaning the windows.
“My car never looked so beautiful since I got it.”
