NAWILIWILI — The Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank received nearly $6,000 Thursday generated by the RumFire’s Table 53 at its Nawiliwili facility.
“We are thrilled to assist a local charity which does so much good for our island,” said Chip Bahouth, the Sheraton Kaua‘i general manager in a release. “As a member of this community, we are proud to offer Table 53 as a fun and delicious way to raise money for worthy causes.”
The donation came from the “You Dine, We Donate” campaign at the RumFire Table No. 53 in the Sheraton Kaua‘i in March.
Since its inception in late 2011, RumFire Table 53 has raised more than $18,000 with its “You Dine, We Donate” program to benefit local charities.
Annette Wong of Starwish Kaua‘i, charitable foundation for the Starwood properties, was joined by Jayden Callahan, the Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort in Po‘ipu food and beverage director, and June Cappiello, the Sheraton’s community relations officer, in presenting the funds to Frank Ranger, KIFB executive director.
Ranger said the contribution is most opportune as KIFB establishes a Keiki Cafe program with the Boys & Girls Club, Lihu‘e Outreach as well as a program in Anahola to provide healthy snacks for keiki after school.
“In many cases, these are the only food the keiki has for the weekend,” Ranger said.
Ranger said funds will also allow the recently-established Kupa‘a Kokua Kupuna to continue to feed the elderly belonging to a program such as the Kaua‘i Senior Centers and Alu Like.
RumFire is Po‘ipu Beach’s newest hot spot in the Sheraton Kaua‘i and features Hawaiian-rooted cuisine with global twists.
