“The Waimea High School Athletic Department would like to recognize the student athletes for their dedication and accomplishments on and off the playing field,” states a Waimea release. “We would like to thank each and every student-athlete for participating in athletics.”
Freitas anchored the mound for the Menehune baseball program while Matagiese, earlier signing to play softball for the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine, was the field general in her catcher’s position for the Menehune softball team.
