LIHU‘E — A Koloa home was destroyed by fire early Thursday on Mana Hema Place.
No injuries were reported but the blaze caused roughly $400,000 damage to the single-story home and its contents.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Kaua‘i Dispatch received the call around 2:30 a.m. and firefighters from the Kalaheo station were on scene within five minutes. By then the three-bedroom home was fully engulfed in flames.
The fire was extinguished by 5 a.m. after 16 firefighters from the Kalaheo, Koloa and Lihue stations arrived on scene to assist.
Kaua‘i Police Department closed a portion of Koloa Road for roughly one hour for rescuers access to the area until 6 a.m.
American Red Cross volunteers responded to at least one person in need of emergency assistance for shelter, food, clothing and bedding. Caseworkers followed up with the family to ensure they were provided with the necessary referrals to assist with their disaster recovery.
