Three-point bombs were pivotal in Friday night wins at the Kaua‘i High School gym.
Playing in the 18 and Over basketball league hosted by the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association, Travis Gothier dropped two of his three-pointers in the second half to lead the Nobodies to a 39-34 win over Hanakila in the opener.
Gothier finished with 11 points, including treys in the first, third and fourth periods, matched by Hanakila’s Brison Nacapuy, who dropped a pair of three-balls in the third frame.
Allen Calumag and Michael Lindsey added seven points each in the Nobodies’ win as they pulled away following a 17-17 halftime deadlock.
Michael Booth led Hanakila with 10 points followed by Keali‘i Colipano and Mosese Fifita with eight each.
Tab Matsumoto posted eight three-balls toward his game-high 33 points to lead the Kings to a 78-49 showing over Westside Pride in the second of three games.
Lance Miyashiro, a strong player for Kapa‘a High School during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season, posted a dozen points for the Kings with Chris Bracewell and Justin Starks ending with eight points apiece.
Willie Lawson topped the Westside scoring with 22 points and Michael Sagucio added eight points. During the three-point storm, Chad Narimatsu launched a trey for the Westside.
The Wreckage posted seven from outside the three-point arc compared with four for the Kaua‘i Athletic Club in the Wreckage’s 68-32 win in the nightcap.
Austin Rosa topped the Wreckage with 15 points and Jordan Flores added 14 points. John Patch added 13 points and Kaleo Cummings finished with 11 points.
R.J. Pillos topped KAC with 14 points, followed by Sam Pomele with eight.
Westside Pride is scheduled to meet Tropang-L starting at 6 p.m. Friday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center followed by KAC taking on the Kings at 7 p.m.
The Nobodies go against the Wreckage at 8 p.m.
