Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from The Shadow radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.
Pono Kai Seawall
Da Shadow: For the current project, how much federal funding and county funding is being used?
County: This project is county funded only. The current CIP budget has budgeted $3 million for three projects: ‘Aliomanu Road, Pono Kai and Moanakai Seawall.
Hanapepe Park
Da Shadow: Is there an update on the basketball courts at this facility?
County: A brand new full size basketball court has been constructed and been in use since Spring 2012.
Isenberg Park
Da Shadow: The basketball court at Isenberg needs to be resurfaced and the nets and backboards be replacing. Is this work scheduled?
County: We are still completing the design in house. We do not foresee this project going out to bid until July 2013. Assuming that all goes well, construction is projected to start about October 2013. The installation of new backboards will be done in conjunction with the reconstruction of the court. Parks will replace the nets within the next two weeks.

Da Shadow: Do all parks bathrooms have soap dispensers?
County: None of our parks bathrooms have soap dispensers. They were taken out a while back due to continued vandalism.
