LIHU‘E — Jay-R Punzalan netted a game-high 17 points and James Badua added 13 points to lead Tropang-L to a 49-45 win over Nobodies Friday night.
That was the first of three games played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center as the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association opened its 18 and over basketball league for the summer.
Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association said there are eight teams that make up the summer league.
Philip Baclayon coaches Hanakila, Tab Matsumoto leads the Kings, Robert Mangayayam leads Tropang-L, Austin Rosa coaches the Wreckage, Gabriel Legacy leads the Kaua‘i Athletic Club, Coach Bronson heads the Nobodies and Benjamin Buyat coaches the Westside Pride.
Allen Calumag dropped 14 points to lead the Nobodies with Mike Lindsey lending 11 points and Matt Palaroan finishing with nine points.
Johnny Ho‘oikaika soared to a game-high 20 points to lead the Wreckage to a 65-48 win over Hanakila in the second match. Austin Rosa added 14 points to help in the win.
Keali‘i Colipano dropped 13 points and Angelito Roslin finished with nine points for Hanakila.
Willie Lawson had 28 points to lead the Westside Pride to a 58-44 victory over the Kaua‘i Athletic Club.
Chase Dorsett and Desmond Moniz each pocketed seven points to help the Westside win.
R.J. Pillos and Spam Lindsey topped the Kaua‘i Athletic Club with 14 points each. Cody Dolor rounded out the effort with 11 points.
Games move to the Kaua‘i High School Gym, Friday night with three games on tap starting at 6 p.m. when Hanakila takes on the Nobodies.
The Kings will make their debut against the Westside Pride at 7 p.m. and the Wreckage will take on KAC starting at 8 p.m.
