Pono Tokioka fired a final-round 76 (37-39) to lead Kaua‘i to a sixth place finish at the David S. Ishii Foundation golf tournament on Maui.
Tokioka finished with a two-day 155 (79-76) for a four-way tie for 23rd place at the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state boys golf championship, which was won by Punahou’s Kalena Preus, who ended with a 136 (69-67) at the Ka‘anapali Golf Course.
Punahou topped the team total with a two-day 561 (279-282) followed by Moanalua (292-288-580), Kamehameha Schools (315-301-616) and the Mid-Pacific Institute (296-321-617).
Kaua‘i tallied 633 (319-314) below the Baldwin team who finished in fifth at 619 (312-307).
Following Tokioka, who emerged as the top Kaua‘i golfer, was Braeden Robley carded a 157 (82-75), Jaime Amimoto finished with a 158 (81-77) for a five-way tie, Kai Adachi finished with a 165 (78-87) for a four-way tie, and Trevor Kua ended with a 167 (81-86), tying another Kaua‘i-born golfer, La‘akea Warren of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama (85-82-167).
Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a represented one of two individualist spots and finished with a 159 (83-76) and Kainalu Gandia of Kapa‘a, filled the other individualist spot and finished a stroke back at 160 (84-76).
Keegan Loo, another Kaua‘i-born golfer playing for Punahou as an individualist, finished at 156 (83-73).
