LIHU‘E — Ed Kawamura was greeted by a throng of people eager for the annual M. Kawamura expo to open Friday.
The response was so great Kawamura will extend the expo pricing until May 11 in appreciation of the support shown by the community.
“We have a lot of new products and there are people from all over who are here demonstrating their products and helping shoppers with questions,” Kawamura said. “We even had the mayor here when we did the traditional blessing of the grounds.”
One of the more popular items being sold this year was the Echo chipper.
“I’ve been waiting for this a long time,” said Bob Bartolo of the Kapa‘a Business Association. “I have a farm, too, and I’ve been waiting for this chipper to go on sale.”
Jerry Fife, director of sales and operations for Kipor Power Systems, made the trip from Portland, Ore., to attend the expo.
“This is the first time Kipor has been part of the expo,” Kawamura said. “They’ve got a line of generators, one of which you can gang together to get additional power.”
A steady stream of power equipment from mowers, chippers, blowers, and chain saws moved through the checkout, getting a final check by the M. Kawamura service crew before leaving with its new owners.
“If you come back in the evening, the pig will be coming out of the imu,” Kawamura said. “We’ll have kalua pig.”
The farm expo, 2824 Wehe Road in Lihu‘e, will continue until Saturday afternoon.
