PO‘IPU — Jennifer Ortal was celebrating May Day on Wednesday, but Mother’s Day was on her mind at The Kaua‘i Culinary Market.
Ortal created free keiki wristbands made out of flowers and strung fragrant plumeria lei for shoppers wanting to participate in May Day at The Shops at Kukui‘ula.
“Jen is going to be offering special Mother’s Day lei and lei workshops where keiki can create lei for their mothers May 11 at the Kaua‘i Community Market,” said Melissa McFerrin, market coordinator for the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau. “She’ll be joined by students from the Kawaikini School, who will be offering fresh floral arrangements for people to treat mom with.”
The Kaua‘i Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula on Wednesdays and The Kaua‘i Community Market at the Kaua‘i Community College on Saturdays are done in partnership with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau.
The KCC Saturday market will extend its hours to give people the opportunity to shop for Mother’s Day and graduation presents.
“We will be co-hosting a Mother’s Day celebration with Kaua‘i Made crafts, gifts and sweets in addition to our Kaua‘i Grown items to promote gift giving,” McFerin said. “This is a great time to look for local products for graduation and other gift giving events.”
