LIHU‘E — A championship will be on the line when Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a meet in boys volleyball at 7 Tuesday night at the Bernice Hundley Gym in Kapa‘a.
The game will determine the winner of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys volleyball championship and the KIF representative to the New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s Division I and II state championships on May 8 through 11.
Coaches from both the defending KIF champion Kapa‘a Warriors and the contender Kaua‘i Red Raiders took advantage of the final KIF season games to hone their troops in anticipation of the matchup.
Kapa‘a, playing the Menehune at the Clem Gomes Gym at an earlier time due to Kapa‘a having its prom Saturday night, claimed a five-set victory, 26-24, 18-25, 25-12, 21-25, and 15-8.
Over at the Kaua‘i High School gym, Red Raider coach Merrill Carvalho took advantage of its final game to give experience to its junior varsity upgrades, Jake Herbig and Melvin Tingzon, while resting some of the team’s senior players.
Kaua‘i came out of its home gym with a five-set victory over the Voyagers, 25-11, 16-25, 29-27, 13-25, and 15-13.
Earlier in the evening, Kaua‘i’s JV was a 2-1 winner, 25-17, 25-17, 25-27 over Island School.
