LIHU‘E — Michael Andrade and Jason Iwata were winners during the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i home expo at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Winners picked up their prizes at the First Hawaiian Bank in Lihu‘e on Monday.
Andrade said he has to go to work after winning a gas-powered Stihl weed whacker provided by Damien Omakanim of Service Rentals, Inc.
“At least I got to win something,” Andrade said. “I guess now I have to go visit the store to see what else they have.”
Jolly Iwata, mother of University of Hawai‘i softball standout Jessica Iwata, stood in for her husband Jason who won a Solar Attic Fan offered by Ray Ellis and the staff of Hawai‘i Planing Mill/Kaua‘i Lumber.
During the CAK expo, HPM/Kauai Lumber was announced as the Best in Show.
Honsador was judged for the Best Use of Space, and American Electric earned the Best Green award.
Kilohana Lighting, a new exhibitor to this year’s home show and a presenter during the free public workshops, also provided a prize of one of its lighting fixtures.
The lighting shop in the Puhi Industrial Park finished the show by being named the Best Single Booth.
During the home show which not only presented the latest in building and remodeling ideas, homeowners and residents could learn about the current trends through the free workshops sponsored by The Hunt Companies.
Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative discussed the “Interconnection Information: What You Should Know Before You Begin,” and HPM/Kaua‘i Lumber talked about “Maintaining Your Roof for Maximum Lifespan: Shingles, Shakes and Metal.”
Kilohana Lighting discussed “Lighting Tips for Seniors Who Are Aging in Their Own Homes.”
The CAK home show was first held to help homeowners who were rebuilding following Hurricane ‘Iniki. The concept of the 21st CAK Home Show remains to help keep the homeowner vigilant and informed in the event of a disaster.
The Contractors Association of Kaua‘i was established in 1957 as a trade association of licensed contractors, suppliers and businesses affiliated with the construction industry on Kaua‘i.
