Blueberry Lemon Drop
1 ounce Stoli Blueberry
1/2 ounce Combier Orange Liqueur
1/2 ounce fresh blueberries
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
1/2 ounce Tahitian Vanilla Bean Infused Simple Syrup
Rim martini glass with lemon zest sugar (comprised of fresh lemon zest baked with sugar).
Pour all ingredients over ice into a mixing glass. Shake and pour into a chilled martini glass.
The Blueberry Lemon Drop was created in-house by bartender Alika Mayer. This innovative, sweet cocktail is a blueberry lover’s dream. The combination of Stoli Blueberry vodka and fresh blueberries really give this drink its identity. I’ve only had a handful of blueberry drinks in my life and I have to say that blueberry is an ingredient that I will be adding to my future cocktails.
Koloa Mai Tai
1 ounce Koloa Rum Kaua‘i Gold
1⁄2 ounce orange liqueur
1 ounce fresh lime juice (1/2 lime)
1⁄2 ounce sugar cane juice
Splash vanilla infused simple syrup
1 ounce Koloa rum Kaua‘i dark float.
After I was pau sampling the Blueberry Lemon Drop, bartender Laurie Shibao, creator of the Koloa Mai Tai asked, “You like try one adda drink?”
“Shoots,” I replied.
Shibao has been a bartender at Gaylord’s for eight years and her concoction, the Koloa Mai Tai, combines Koloa Rum with fresh lime and sugar cane juice, infused vanilla simple syrup and orange liqueur. She made the bugga strong — I mean really strong.
“You like that drink, don’t you?” she said.
Indeed, I enjoyed it immensely. Bartenders like Shibao, who make fine drinks as well as keep things down to earth, are a rarity in this booming industry. Give her as visit, talk story and have her make you a delicious cocktail.
