LIHU‘E — The Department of Water issued a water conservation notice effective until 6 p.m. for the Hanalei-Waipa area.
All customers in the affected and surrounding areas are urged to conserve water and restrict water consumption to essential uses only during this time. Essential needs include: cooking; bathing; and toilet flushing.
The Operations Division reports that a tank valve broke during the work scheduled last night, which caused the water tank to empty. While water was being supplied to most of the Hanalei-Waipa customers by Princeville Utilities Company Inc. (PUCI), the capacity of the PUCI system was unable to keep up with the high demands and many customers experienced low water pressure or no water earlier today.
Residents are also asked to notify their neighbors of this request and encourage their participation.
For more information, call the Department of Water at 245-5461 during business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For emergencies after business hours, call police dispatch at 241-1711.
