KILAUEA — Helen Stuefloten, a volunteer at Na Aina Kai, will be hosting a book signing on “There’s a Giant in the Garden” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Na ‘Aina Kai Botanical Gardens in Kilauea.
Inspired by the giant sculpture that forms a centerpiece of the Children’s Garden, Stuefloten got help from artist Patricia Tanguay to illustrate the saga of Melia and Sadie who are anticipating a trip with their school class to a special children’s park.
Melia’s brother relayed a scary thought — there’s a giant in the garden.
The book winds through the field trip to Na ‘Aina Kai’s “Under the Rainbow” Children’s Garden.
Keiki and their families are also invited to enjoy Keiki Day at Na ‘Aina Kai from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Admission is $10 and reservations are encouraged so children and their families can enjoy the Children’s Garden.
The rainbow-colored gates open to Jack’s pond that is only an indication of the many keiki-friendly features including a gecko maze, a nearly full-sized Rubber Tree tree house, a tropical jungle featuring bridges, tunnels and slides, a keiki-sized train and log cabins.
“There’s a Giant in the Garden” retails for $15 and is available in Na ‘Aina Kai Visitor Center with proceeds earmarked for the development of new projects within the gardens.
People can call 828-0525 for reservations.
